American Public Transportation Association
A trade association that seeks to strengthen and improve public transportation, serves and leads its diverse membership through advocacy, innovation and information sharing, and works to ensure that public transportation is available and accessible for all Americans in communities across the country.

A non-profit social research firm dedicated to helping people build better communities, organizations and businesses.
Asset Based Community Development Institute
The ABCD Institute has outlined a process through a community can map its assets – person, association and institution assets. These assets are mapped in the physical and economic context of the community. These assets are then mobilized to address community problems and build stronger communities. This process emphasizes calling upon marginalized individuals in the community, those who have been labeled, and includes older adults.

Provides information about the state budget, demographics, monthly financial bulletins, and related links.
California Council of Governments
Represents California’s Regional Councils of city council members and county supervisors, and in many areas there are also board members representing the state and other local and regional agencies.

A commercial web site that has collected and analyzed data from numerous sources to create as complete and interesting profiles of all U.S. cities, provides over 63,000 city photos not found anywhere else, graphs of latest real estate prices and sales trends, statistics about residents (race, income, ancestries, education, employment...), and array of additional facts and figures.
Communities for Life
Private consulting business which offers help with creating a local “aging in place” programs and specializes in the needs of older adults and in individuals with limitations in their activities of daily living.
Communities for a Lifetime Resources
The Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging based in Minnesota provides a model for a local program to address planning for livable communities and promoting collaboration at the city and county level for the benefit of older adults and families.
California Health Interview Survey (CHIS)
The nation's largest state health survey conducted every two years on a wide range of health topics by CHIS is conducted by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research in collaboration with the California Department of Public Health, the Department of Health Care Services and the Public Health Institute. CHIS data gives a detailed picture of the health and health care needs of California's large and diverse population. The survey provides statewide information on the overall population including many racial and ethnic groups, and local-level information on most counties for health planning and important comparison purposes.
Community Partnerships for Older Adults (CPFOA)
Community Partnerships for Older Adults, a national program funded by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to help communities develop leadership, innovative solutions, and options that meet the needs of older adults over the long term.
DataPlace
A one-stop source for housing and demographic data about the local community, region, and the nation, assembles a variety of data sets from multiple sources, but it also provides tools and guides to assist in analyzing, interpreting, and applying the data in order make more informed decisions.

Disability Statistics Center
A University of California, San Francisco project provides a clearinghouse for disability data on the web; includes statistics about all US cities - maps, race, income, photos, education, crime, weather, and housing.
Elder Friendly Business Certification
A licensed assessment program that provides trained elder evaluators from a licensed aging agency "shop" a business anonymously for a nominal fee, reviewing the effectiveness of telephone and customer service, building layout and access. Feedback and training information is provided to management, and when in compliance, the business is awarded certification in the form of a window decal that lets everyone know this business is “Elder Friendly Certified.”
Great Valley Center: Resources
A non-profit organization works closely with the University of California, Merced to improve California's Great Central Valley through the management of leadership development programs, provision of technical support, and sponsorship of events on issues important to the Valley's future.
International City/County Management Association
A local government leadership and management membership organization provides publications, data, information, technical assistance, and training and professional development to thousands of city, town, and county experts and other individuals throughout the world.
League of California Cities
A membership organization for California cities that provides a wealth of information and resources, as well as publishing Western City magazine and partnering in the Institute for Local Government, which is a research affiliate of the California Association of Counties and the League of California Cities.

Commercial web site specializing in serving a wide scope of industries use Melissa Data tools and services in a variety of ways to simplify and optimize their direct marketing and data quality initiatives, provides in area code searches, street address finders, lookup street address finders and mailing address finders. Also includes maps of zip Codes, counties, carrier routes, and cities.
Migration Policy Institute
An independent, non-partisan, non-profit “think tank” dedicated to the study of the movement of people worldwide, provides trends, data and reports.
National Bureau of Economic Research
A private, nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization dedicated to promoting a greater understanding of how the economy works, and is committed to undertaking and disseminating unbiased economic research among public policymakers, business professionals, and the academic community.
Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD)
A state of California agency that promotes health care accessibility through leadership in analyzing California's health care infrastructure, promoting a diverse and competent health care workforce, providing information about health care outcomes, assuring the safety of buildings used in providing health care, insuring loans to encourage the development of health care facilities, and facilitating development of sustained capacity for communities to address local health care issues.
Pew Research Center
The Pew Research Center's Social & Demographic Trends project studies behaviors and attitudes of Americans in key realms of their lives, including family, community, health, finance, work and leisure. The project explores these topics by combining original public opinion survey research with social, economic and demographic data analysis.
Planning for an Ageing Community
Administered by the Australian Local Government Commission, a resource providing information and guidance on how local governments can plan and implement aging friendly policies in order to create more livable communities for all ages.
Rand Center for the Study of Aging
The RAND Center for the Study of Aging conducts objective, independent, behavioral research on the elderly population and aims to help improve public policy through both primary data collection and secondary data analysis on the interrelationships among health, economic status, socioeconomic factors, and public policy.
Social Explorer
An interactive commercial web site that provides easy access to demographic information about the United States, from 1790 to 2000 and gives users the ability to generate reports and maps.
