County Medical Services Program/ The California Endowment Wellness and Prevention Program Technical Support

Wellness and Prevention Program

The Wellness and Prevention Program is a partnership between the County Medical Services Program and The California Endowment. This partnership is designed to strengthen community capacity for decision-making, provide opportunities to change the delivery of community based health services and assist counties in securing future resources for sustaining effective programs.

Technical Support Program

Technical support activities work toward strengthening the capacities of the counties to collaborate locally to implement and sustain programs that will improve community health. In addition, technical support efforts create learning opportunities that enhance relationships across communities throughout California. The Center provides technical support on preventive service design and delivery, collaboration and sustainability.

Technical Support Methods

The geographic isolation and fiscal constraints of many of the Wellness and Prevention Program communities make it difficult for them to learn from each other.

The Center for Civic Partnerships has created opportunities for cross-learning, both in-person (at trainings or conferences) and through distance learning channels (e.g., web, e-mail, telephone).

Technical support is provided through:

  • creation and coordination of a learning community
  • individual technical support (telephone and e-mail)
  • group convenings
  • listserv (e-mail group)
  • website (www.civicpartnerships.org)
  • distribution of written materials/resources

County Medical Services Program (CMSP)

The CMSP was established in 1982 to provide medical and dental care to medically indigent adults (MIAs) aged 21-64 who are of marginal income and who are not eligible for the State's Medi-Cal Program. This program is administered by the Office of County Health Services (OCHS) in conjunction with the CMSP Governing Board.
